Terratek has completed 10 successful years and now faces new opportunities due to Brazilian economic growth. Civil engineers in Brazil are facing a very busy time, compared with a few years ago.
Our main challenge today is to maintain a high quality of design and keep our clients satisfied. We have invested in improving our CPT section, dynamic and geotechnical monitoring.
Terratek is carrying out the following contracts

Terratek manufactures its own piezocone systems in our electronics workshops. A 100 kN loading frame enables us to calibrate and test our cones before and after every job.
Terratek is carrying out signal processing and analysis of the dynamic behaviour of Sarawak Bridge in Malaysia, using our proprietary software Creo.

Beto Ortigao is Terratek’s technical director. He holds a BSc and a PhD in civil engineering and taught for 25 years at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
From 1982 to 1984 he visited Britain and worked on the offshore foundations research programme at the Building Research Establishment and on offshore foundation design at Fugro UK Ltd.
He has been Visiting Professor at the following universities: UBC University of British Columbia, Canada, City University of Hong Kong and University of Western Sydney, Australia.
He has been involved in several important engineering projects like:, dams, harbours, tunnels, embankments on soft foundations, slope stabilisation, foundations, in several countries.
He authored a text-book “Soil mechanics in the light of critical state theories” by Balkema in 1995 and, in 2004, the Handbook of slope stabilisation by Springer Verlag, Heidelberg.
He has lectured worldwide: in the Far East (Hong Kong and Malaysia), Europe (UK, France, Portugal) and South and North Americas.
